$2,000,000 Saved By Thermoscan

During the annual Thermoscan inspection of the plant and facilities a potentially serious fault was identified. The Plant Management assessed that immediate action should be implemented. First find and obtain the necessary replacement parts. It was found that they were available late the next day. A 4 hour shutdown of the major plant was scheduled for the day after.

During the repairs the faulty switch literally fell apart in their hands. The complete repair was effected in 1½ hours - a further downtime saving of 2½ hours. It was estimated that at least 2 days unscheduled downtime was averted - at $1,000,000 per day -  plus the unknown cost of the damage caused had the unit failed and the potential loss of life had a fire ensured.
